10 year old poet's entry for #WarOfWords Slam Poetry Competition

Her teacher told her he was entering for a poetry competition with a theme "It to win it." 30 minutes later, she had written a poem on the theme. That was pretty impressive, but when I now watched the video, I tripped!!!
Omo, see the swag, and she is just 10 year old.
You don't believe me, well, watch the video below.

ITEOLUWA AKINSUNMADE: #WarOfWords - In it to win
She is a 10 year old girl and is surely one for the future.

Gbenga Osowe: The POETIC PSALMIST.#WarOfWords

Osowe Oluwagbenga Omolayo likes to describe himself by his itinerary, thus: Classroom (where he teaches Mathematics at GMAT amongst other levels), Church (where he sings, worships and performs poems) and computer (that includes his smartphone and playbook where he writes poems, reads books and listens to music).

A music lover, Gbenga discovered the poet in him in May 2012 when news of James Ibori’s incarceration prompted him to write a poem titled “GOLDEN GATES” and he has not stopped writing poems tinged with humour and sarcasm since then.

He loves to teach, sing, listen to music and write poems and he is a firm believer in the bright future of the Spoken Word industry in Nigeria.

#WarOfWords -IN IT TO WIN by K-meks Otuya

This is not a valid video entry.
Why?
Well, He came all the way from Delta and got an automatic slot during the last WORD UP Volume 4.
There was a preview of War Of Words during WORD UP Volume 4,
and he stepped up to the mic and rocked it.
So with or without this submission,
he is already part of the poets to compete on War Of Words stage come this June 30th 2013.
Meaning?
There are just 14 slots left :).

IN IT TO WIN by K-meks Otuya

Each time I cast a gaze at the state of my fatherland
A confused countenance appears before me
It causes a sense of phobia that erupts from the mess, we stand upon
Finding its way through my knee caps and into my thighs
And gradually, settles like a digested food in my bowels
Generating an awful sensation that keeps me awake each night-Pondering and Thinking
Where did we miss the path shown to us by our fathers?
How did we get to Herod's Palace, seeking the death of Christ-Us?
From whence did we attract this destructive spell?
I asked! I thought!! I wept!!!
In my wallowing and sorrowing state
I recalled the story, as it was told in our History class
Great Compatriots who envisaged a great Nigeria
Lifting up their banners
Standing against the plague of colonialism
Dogged men who were armed to the teeth
For they were armed with Courage, Strength and Might
Fighting but for a just cause
Heroes who laid aside Greed and Selfish interests
Complementing one another
Engaging the colonial masters in constructive dialogue
Giving their all and best-They obliged
'Cos they were in it to win
Oh! Yes they won
They won in their quest for freedom
Gaining Independence from the hands of the Queen's men
Upholding the element of continuity
Teaching us the pledge
Oh! How they envisaged
A Nation where food will be available to all
A Nation whose wealth will be evenly distributed
A Nation of Peace and Tranquility
Where normalcy and decency would exude from all sectors of the economy
In these-they lived for..laboured..and died for
But right from the tombs where they lay-I hear their crys
Crying for a generation seeking direction
A Nation of people with no defined purpose for living
Burdened by these anomalies-I make this clarion call
Arise! Fellow Countrymen
The race to prominence isn't easy-No doubt
But we must Brace-Up ourselves
Holding on to the truth
Binding us together
That we are Africa's Giant
Transforming Nigeria from this pitiable state,

to a state-of-the-Art Nation
I dare to say, If we believe truly in this
The world ain't seen nothing yet,

Cos we're in it to win.

#WarOfWords - Passion by Alexandra Zion

Another babe in the house,
Seems the ladies are ready to give the guys a run for their money.
Passion, hmm, where do I start from?
Passion is like sweet rum.
Passion is like the sweet melody of a drum.
Passion breeds inspiration.
Passion breaks through limitation.
Passion creates history.
Passion is poetry.

War Of Words- Passion by Alexandra Zion

I was born innocent,
And I sat peacefully as one,
When SUDDENLY,like a rushing WIND,
You came to me from afar off.
You saw to it that I fell in love with you!
You strengthened my muscles,
And put on my armour,
Encouraging me to wrestle with mine enemies.

Oh Literature!
You are my passion.
Years have gone by,
Years are still counting,
Yet I grow deeper in thy bosom!
Oh my paradise of happiness,
Breakage to my walls of gloom,
Source of joyful rivulets from my human lake.

Ubuntu became history,
When I expressed my passion for poetry.
I was likened to a lunatic,
By same friends who eased my panic.

One night,
As the moon danced in the sky,
I reviewed my love,
And questioned my life's decisions,
But it became more wood to the fire in me.
It made me stronger,
Because you came like thunder,
Provoking my sweet laughter.
I brace up to see beyond the lines,
And rise above their guns of whines,
To make those waiting headlines.

The Creator believes in my authenticity,
Of what use is my abode in mediocrity?
Life!
A competition in itself,
But here is a prevailing warrior.
Like the sun I'm shining,
For the top I'm reaching,
Alive comes my moxie,
For I'm in this war to win!!!

#Ubuntu(a word used in the poem) is South African for "humanity to others"

#WarOfWords - In it to win by Micheal Stanley aka Aimhigh

Have you ever been in a point in your life, where you feel like quiting?
If you have, I guess for you this poem is written.
Sometimes I get confused of the troubles God is permitting
If wishes were horses,I guesss I would have ridden.

Cos am rising daily
My hustling is getting deeper.
The plans to get to my goals are getting bolder
Have been rejected, restricted and thrown aside
I reflect my prospectives is to go inside
When I was young i pray to God to teach me how to write
And when am writing,

I hear angels speaking
I remember my first performance,

how hard I prepared
I remember even chairs did not cheer.

My second performance

I thought it was a blast
The B was taken off and I took last
My friends said Aimhigh you are gonna fail
My Mama said cool boy, God is going to put them to shame
Even when I had no more lines, I could still write
He took me off my past and off the street
He knew my dream was poetry
He knew i want to make history.
He gave olulu the idea to take me there
And now am on wordup people
Am in it to win.

#WarOfWords - EXTRATERRESTRIAL by Seye La Poet

Some win some
Some loose some
But, I win all
Infact! that's my objective in every war
So, War Of Words cannot be an exception
And to all my competitors...please, wait at the reception

You see I know success like the very hair on my chest
Even the best of the best say I'm the best
So, whilst so are worked up on how to win
I'm relaxed sipping metaphors and punch lines like a cup of tea

Make no mistake
I'm in this to win
Even if Olulu and his team are members of PDP

Make no mistake
I'm in this to win
I'm extraterrestrial
Not a human being

#WarOfWords- The Isolated Mind by Uzbek

Someone once said, "words are the tools that separate us from fools."
Words are really tools,
even though poets are not the tool makers,
but poets are tool users,
and our tools have got skill, style and staying power.
The isolated mind by Uzbek is the 6th entry so far, and men,
I feel this guy no be small.
Hmmm, the power of words,
so powerful, it cuts deeper than a sword.

#WarOfWords- The Isolated Mind

by
Uzbek

I've been dwelling on the wagon

often intoxicated by red rum spelt backwards (red rum spelt backwards=murder)

See, he was a son of the gun,
so it shouldn't be surprising if you heard he was always on the run
trying to beat the lightening & bolt cos they say life is a race
all for the desire to reach for his amazing grace.

Sometimes, a brother's ego could be his downfall

this continues to question, what do i write for?
is it for the truth, the cause or the pride? for within the pride lies the prejudice
Like am the jury, am i to prejudge this????
When the truth is handled like a knife; i guess it's not hard to stab with it
i even play poker-faced to pretend it's not happening to me

Because my whole life is like a complex sentence, it gives you labial factor

so it's hard to pronounce my innocence; for it clutches down my vocal cord.
now am here spitting fire,
trying to move while laying on the floor, you can say i drag-on.
Like Daniel, trapped in the Lion's den.
Calling for rescue mission; this is not my residence.
and if That stitch in time doesn't save nine, i wonder what happens when it gets to ten.
***imbibing scriptures and epistles of saints in similar situations***
***many got saved by the gospel, that's the manifestation***
i tried to get on the train but it suddenly got derailed
if Jacob could wrestle with an angel to stake his claim;
then i must be so lame not to have done the same.

Life wrote me a song, with the tune embedded in my head

the fainted rhythm I project the fainted rhythm on every edge.
As I lurk deeper, it gets boring.
Wait a minute....
must i take my food to the roof top because i'm fed up?
wow! that's a question for ages!
on another train of thoughts, i keep crying like a baby.

many a times, i fell victim to my own stubborn erection

guess i will just allow this gift of words pave me a lucid direction.
such is life, the race , you sprint
losing no connection with the track till my heels get weary
should that be scary?
Because i'm in it to win it.

Entry for #WarOfWords (Slam Poetry Competition) by St. Rhymes

This is the entry for War Of Words (Slam Poetry Competition) by St. Rhymes.

#WarOfWords - War of Words by ST. RHYMES

If life is a War of Words
Then I am in it to Win
Cos' I am Wired to Win.
I Win not because of what I perform
But because of who I am.
I am the Poetic Preacher
Reaching out to the depth of your soul
Dishing out, dishing out wisdom to your soul.
Who am i?
I am the Blood washed Saint
And with words I Paint the Picture of the Future,
Giving hope to the hopeless
And life to the lifeless
If life was a War of Words
Then am in it to Win
Cos' I am wired to Win
I win because of who I Rep,
I rep the spoken word, outspoken from the mouth of the Lord of Lords
I Rep Christ and that's why I Win
If life was a War of Words
Then am in it to Win
because I am wired to Win...
