"I Know" by Shegzrhymz #WarOfWords2

Nice flow,
and nice use of words.
I am sure the guy must be a player,
cos him just dey play with words
like a newly wed husband dey play with....em...em.
Well, you know na :).

"I Know" by Shegzrhymz

I Know who I Am, I am who my creator says I am. I am a man of Destiny! /
But I know the gap between the lines of getting and not getting There's Tiny/
Sure, I am sticking with d former,

I won't step down - No Transformer.
so when I get there, let it produce no Shocks/

That is just my city of Destiny, not Electri-City.

My purpose has nothing to do with Kainji Dam/
Apart from my HIV Status,

I Am always Positive.
That's a Plus, right? /
No division can tear down me down cos I Am not even bothered about difficult Times.

Mathematicians will appreciate what I just said better/
Please, don't take this as just an ordinary rhyme Letter, this is what I know.

I know I'm d Change I seek.

I know I Am very ready to make a difference -
Inject new ideas, new inventions, new innovation in..don't let the word 'inject' in that sentence filled with 'In' bother you 'cos I learnt it from My Nurse/
Or you think I'm in d medical line?

Now that's a Minus,
all I just did now was to give Reference/

I know getting to my destiny might take a while/
I know a step is what starts the Journey of a thousand Mile...so, I know I Can.
I know I can. I don't need to be an Accountant to know ICAN/
I can do Everything if I put God and hard work 2 It

Pray like I don't work and work like I don't Pray/
Even when Animals do that, Humans become the Prey!/

I always pick d last 4 words from a Mexican;

I Can! -
I add an apostrophe after "I" in Impossible - Yes, "I'm Possible"/
I know I can make a change with my little words,

I might not have as much wards as a teaching hospital.
But still I Speak, with Passion,
drop the words like drops of water on a plant that grow to become a Forest/
Drops of water that drops on drops of water that give a mighty big Ocean,

so just take dis like I'm planting, soon you will see the Harvest!/

My spoken word is not just for the ears,

gets through your eardrums and hits the soul/
Just like the shoes of a desperate unemployed graduate that the earth eats the Sole,

the words Consume - Laziness, fears - gives you the assist to reach your Goal/

And don't think I'm boasting/
Even if I were 2 be anywhere in America, it definitely won't be Boston/
I'm not there yet but my aim is to be the greatest and I'm filled with Zeal/
I know I will be great! I know I will!/

I just have 2 believe what I see, then I will Achieve/
when negative words come then I need 2 weave/
Don't just take this as my confession, it can apply 2 u too
cos this is not just 2 keep you busy like a bee

but 2 make u be who u are supposed 2 Be - 2 Be the change you seek/

How? Not by looking through a glass,

picking on people like you've got the Beak/
But look into d mirror, who you see is the pass - just reflection?

Yeah, that's the trick!/
So don't think I'm selfish, or Steve Jobs or an Optician by profession cos I kept mentioning "I"/
But let this spoken word Inspire and lift you to a point so high - where u also will get a book, pen, and start writing the words "I know!"

#WarOfWords - Passion by Alexandra Zion

Another babe in the house,
Seems the ladies are ready to give the guys a run for their money.
Passion, hmm, where do I start from?
Passion is like sweet rum.
Passion is like the sweet melody of a drum.
Passion breeds inspiration.
Passion breaks through limitation.
Passion creates history.
Passion is poetry.

War Of Words- Passion by Alexandra Zion

I was born innocent,
And I sat peacefully as one,
When SUDDENLY,like a rushing WIND,
You came to me from afar off.
You saw to it that I fell in love with you!
You strengthened my muscles,
And put on my armour,
Encouraging me to wrestle with mine enemies.

Oh Literature!
You are my passion.
Years have gone by,
Years are still counting,
Yet I grow deeper in thy bosom!
Oh my paradise of happiness,
Breakage to my walls of gloom,
Source of joyful rivulets from my human lake.

Ubuntu became history,
When I expressed my passion for poetry.
I was likened to a lunatic,
By same friends who eased my panic.

One night,
As the moon danced in the sky,
I reviewed my love,
And questioned my life's decisions,
But it became more wood to the fire in me.
It made me stronger,
Because you came like thunder,
Provoking my sweet laughter.
I brace up to see beyond the lines,
And rise above their guns of whines,
To make those waiting headlines.

The Creator believes in my authenticity,
Of what use is my abode in mediocrity?
Life!
A competition in itself,
But here is a prevailing warrior.
Like the sun I'm shining,
For the top I'm reaching,
Alive comes my moxie,
For I'm in this war to win!!!

#Ubuntu(a word used in the poem) is South African for "humanity to others"

How to set up your first poetry event

Whether you’re going away to university in a new town, you want to discover fresh talent or you have a fantastic new idea you feel should be explored further, starting up your own poetry night can be a great way of generating interest in the art of spoken word.

So we’ve drawn up a step-by-step guide to help you to organise your first poetry event.
1. The first thing you should do is crowdsource. Ask friends and those in the industry what they think of your idea. There’s no point going through all the trouble of organising an event if there is no interest in it. You need to build a close network, so that people will attend your event. It’s important to remember that if you’re passionate about your idea, you’ll have much more of a chance of selling it to others.
2. Draw up detailed plan of what the event will involve. Is it solely a poetry night, or will you have other creative acts also? Is it for all ages or just adults? These specifications will help you decide what kind of venue is best for you. A bar would be completely unsuitable, for example, if your target demographic is 14-18 year olds!
3. Approach a venue you think would be open to poetry nights. This could be an exhibition hall, a gallery, a theatre or a bar. Remember, the settings must be appropriate for the performance. Is there a stage or an area the artist could perform from? Is there sufficient space for the audience to see and hear the act? Will they be comfortable?
4. Set up a professional email address so that the venue, fans and performers can contact you directly. You don’t want to miss important information because you thought it was just another Groupon spam mail!
5. Ask relevant poets to perform at your event. At this stage, you probably can’t pay them. Most poets enjoy performing, they’re not in it for the money. So stress that it would be a great platform for them to get their work out there. If you’re having an open-mic segment to the night, make sure you advertise your new email address so artists can sign up to perform.
6. Advertise and promote! Use Twitter and Facebook to spread the word and generate interest. Message blogs (such as this one) to inform them your event is coming up. Post on forums and society groups. Make posters and flyers and staple them around town.
7. Finally, don’t forget to have fun. You’ve worked hard to make this night a success, so stop stressing and enjoy it!
We look forward to being invited to your first poetry event.
