He is Bionic with "wordly" habit #WarOfWords

We will be bringing to you the profiles of all the 15 finalists for WAR OF WORDS - Slam Poetry Competition. The event comes up on Sunday June 30th 2013 from 3pm at Bogobiri House, Ikoyi, Lagos.

First up...................BIONIC!!!!

Bionic is a veteran wordsmith that is wanted in over five states of the country for rhyme-related crimes.
He plans to cross seas with this ''wordly habit'' of his. He works as a Copywriter.

He's been writing words for as long as he can remember.
He carries a pen and a pad everywhere he goes...even to bed.
On very rare occasions that one of the two items is absent, he writes on any surface; his open palm, the back of his hand, lay-away flyers, even on the flipside of the golden paper on the inside of an empty, ripped cigarette pack. Hence his line, ''The pen is my weapon/Lyrical or physical/...''
He draws inspiration from reading the bible and all kinds of stuff, flyers, magazines, newspapers, books; encyclopedias, dictionaries (Trying to do a page a day). Lol.
He likes to work-out, swim, loves to play scrabble with his prettiful wife and chess.
Bionic feels the future of Spoken word in Nigeria is yet surprising to all. Keyword, all.

#WarOfWords - AFRICA by Ikenna "Bionic" Mbah

He said his name is Bionic
I guess his style is also dynamic
Cos he is screwing words tight like a mechanic
making the ladies scream, please put a ring on it.
In short, the guy dey yarn.

War Of Words - AFRICA by Ikenna "Bionic" Mbah

Why is it as Andrew, we seek ablactation from outside of Africa?
Like a babe in the woods, I'm bitterly blessed by Africa
Cadence, my Coal City crafted Africa
I "Deebo" the mic, the deed broke dreams for Africa
Estray can't eschew to estivate in East Africa
I face out! I forever fly in the face of Africa
This gabfest gangster gaff, we're going gaga in Africa
Hackles raised, habitude crazed, harken to Africa
Immortal inertia in Africa
Justifies hope for a James Bond-type jerk for Africa
Killed for the moment but Keyser Sose became Africa
We live forever a day/Lackaday! Lackadaisical Africa
Mindboggling, my words e humble/I be African
Nouns, naissances, none nearly African
Obtest to God, this ode be a good omen for Africa
Parasite to parvenu, put peace first in Africa
Quarantine minds/Radial radical race to the sanitarium
Some speak in tandem, yet taciturn
Uhuru by any means, like some unbeknownst con
Vandal-turned-voice, vocation or avocation
Words waddling out, exit man
A yes-man yielding to what's-in than wisdom
Africa zealotry zany but like Zoro, we mask it
From zero to zenith, like Zaccheus; we're in it to win it.

Word meanings
1: Deebo_Inspired by the character from Ice Cube's ''Friday'' movies. Originally means to steal something.
2: Uhuru_Swahili for ''Freedom''.

My heart is racing, body shaking, moving to the beat of love, love, love making....!!!

DOLAPO also known as The Voice of Spoken-Word in Africa is a phenomenon!

A connoisseur of simple words skillfully woven to form lines that pull all senses wherever she chooses to take them. Delivered with a sultry, sonorous voice, 'DOLAPO transfixes all audiences.

Her stage performances are a blend of neo-soul musicality with a percussion based aesthetic, skilfully led by her powerful vocal delivery in both song and word. With this she infuses her original body movements giving the spectator a full round, total theatrical experience.
Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria as Oluwadolapo E. Ogunwale, the one simply known as 'DOLAPO - The Voice of Spoken-Word in Africa - is one to watch. She is currently working on her first single.

MYTH OF MY CHILDHOOD (A Spoken Word Piece by Yommy Bishop)

There is a myth that was told since I was born

The myth that gladdens my heart when I was young
The myth of where I came from, and where I belong
The myth of our fathers
Of who takes over when they are gone
The fallacy that left us shattered
The truth that doesn't matter
The colors they painted with their palette
The path they treated as a scarlet.

When I was young father once told me to be strong
That one day to the top I belong
My teacher mantra me ‘leader of tomorrow’
Perhaps they said these to wipe away my sorrow.
But seems tomorrow never come
Or maybe I’m just forever young.
Though I can haul and urge them no more
No more can I endure to bear their brunt
Its dawn but the cocks still don’t crow
Ticking of time but our infants still don’t grow
Days roll into months, months into years
Our drumming rain turns lazy dew in the ears
While our waving sun changes to sleeping moon.
Our well is running dry, metamorphosed into a stony pit
Surrounded by dancing leafs
From the leafy branches of a sheltering tree
In the still of the night, our fathers stole away our right.
Rotating and revolving in selfish pride
They raped her and left the groom with no bride.
The rulers I know are still ruling
While tomorrows leader are trapped in their childhood myth looking.

The myth of my childhood
The myth that rips me off my manhood.
The Ecstasy that bind us
The love that blind us
Lying on my mother's chest
Sucking on my father's breast.
My lips on his hard on nipples
Excitement spread in like ripples.
Federal character a wailing abracadabra
A predicament sweet as venom,
the treasure stolen in billion
We seek freedom from the rulers of this kingdom
They using us to rise to stardom, while our lives abandoned.
Sing it in their ears that again she’s in her period of Ovulation
Sing it all through the nation,
on TV and every radio station
As we the youth are set on edge, for an un-ending Revolution.

Utopia???!!!!!!! (A Spoken Word Poem)

 Utopia???!!!!!!!

Is it utopian to say what should be?
To desire a country that should be
Wrapped in freedom, peace and unity...
I want...
I want a Nigeria where politics is not based on your pocket.
I want a Nigeria where politics is not based on your friends.
I want a Nigeria where politics is not based on thuggery and the propensity of cultism.
I want a Nigeria where politics is not based on pedigree and class stratification.
I want a Nigeria where politics is not based on the number of people you have murdered and your ability to criticize.
I want a Nigeria where politics is not based on negative stratagem

Utopia???!!!!!!!

I want a Nigeria where politics is based on your positive content
I want a Nigeria where the politicians have pedigree in politics not family.
Where right from a certain age a child's strengths are defined and schooled along the lines of political leadership.
Then we would have no fear of the wrong political leadership at the elections.
A crop of people discipled from childhood for the main purpose of ruling Nigeria with unbroken loyalty to the growth and holistic development of the country.
I want a Nigeria where accountability is a blessing not a curse.
I want a Nigeria where the leaders have strength of character and obedience to the sanctity of marriage and single-hood.
Where women and men do not take philandering as the pecks of office.
I want a Nigeria where when we say no to evil we won't be locked up in a dungeon for years and be subject to euthanasia.
I want a Nigeria where good is celebrated and evil is eschewed.

Utopia???!!!!!!!
Makes me dream
Of a nation
where elections will be free and fair not ruthlessly dashed to pieces on the political playground of greed, self aggrandizement and power drunkenness.

Utopia???!!!!!!!
Makes me dream
Of a nation where the democratic government dare not make a fool of themselves and have the president rule a country in absentia.

Utopia???!!!!!!!
Makes me dream
Of a nation where the idea of democracy is upstanding and good intentioned for citizens to run for public office without the fear of selectionism or bias.
Where Politics is a profession and career based on the process of actualizing the need to serve.

Utopia???!!!!!!!
Makes me dream
Of a nation
Where it is not rife with the blame game, but a country where public and political office holders are accountable for their actions and a thousand years of political drudgery would be as a ripple in the ocean.

Utopia???!!!!!!!
Makes me dream
Of a nation
Where the cradle is not beleaguered by corruption and war: their families don't miss them! Where we develop patriotic loyalists teach and train them on the Nigeria we must see.

Utopia???!!!!!!!
Makes me dream
Of a nation
Where we shall run like mighty men; overcome world challenges like men of war; and they shall march everyone on his ways, they shall not break their ranks: Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk everyone in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.

Utopia???!!!!!!!
Makes me dream
Of a nation
Where every man: young and old rests in peace under the shade of his own tree

Utopia???!!!!!!!
Aye or nay?

Reality!!!
