Naija babes that kiss words and make them dance #WordUpVol2

We normally say what a man can do, a woman can do it better.
Personally, if a man has done it, there won't be anything left for the woman to do :).
But on a more serious note,
when it comes to Spoken Word Poetry in Nigeria,
some ladies have made the stage their domain.
Anytime and anywhere,
all they need is just one chance,
and they will kiss words and make them dance.

Check out Atilola featuring Oyinkansola in the first clip,

and
Obii (Naija Poetry Slam 2012 winner) in the second clip.

They will blow your mind.

Branding and Sponsorship opportunities for 2013 with WORD UP (the biggest Spoken Word Poetry Event in Nigeria, West Africa).

INTRODUCTION
We would like to introduce i2X Media Company Limited, the organizers of WORD UP -the biggest Spoken Word Poetry Event in Nigeria.
As a major promoter of Performance Poetry and Spoken Word activities in West Africa, we are passionate about the Art as a genre of entertainment, a tool to increase literacy level, and  a means of communication among people across the globe.
This year, we have worked to establish Performance Poetry and Spoken Word as an industry to reckon with.
Our dream is to promote poets so we can create a means of employment where they can earn a decent living from their amazing performances.
We are certain that a  Spoken Word Poetry industry will help reduce unemployment in the Country as awareness and sponsorship of the Art form increases.

WHERE YOU CAN FIND US.

Every quarter, poets gather from across the globe at our quarterly organized show – WORD UP.
We have  held two editions of WORD UP in UNILAG, Akoka, Lagos.
The first edition was supported by Charvet Nig. Ltd (major marketer of Power Horse energy drink and Kiss Mix) with about 150 people in attendance.
At the second edition, we had over 200 people and the event was powered by First Bank Nigeria Plc.

OUR PLANS

In 2013,  we will hold  6 shows on a bi-monthly basis starting from February 2013. The 6 shows will be categorized into 2 broad types:
a.      WORD UP (Spoken Word Poetry and Soul Music Event)
b.      WORD UP Slam Poetry Competition.
WORD UP (SPOKEN WORD POETRY EVENT)
Word Up (Spoken Word Poetry and Soul Music Event) is a show that features the best Spoken Word Poets in Nigeria all on one stage.
It is a major platform for poets across the globe. Previous editions saw poets from Namibia, England and America grace the stage.
We also feature celebrities who come on stage to read, recite and/or perform poems.
WORD UP SLAM POETRY COMPETITION.
Word Up Slam Poetry Competition is targeted at discovering, nurturing and developing new poetic talents in Nigeria. It will involve the submission of videos by poets (who have never featured in any Word Up event) to a selected panel of judges. The best 10 videos will be selected and on the day of the event proper the poets will compete with each other on one stage for stated cash prizes. The best three poets will automatically feature at the next Word Up (Spoken Word Poetry and Soul Music Event).

Imagine you were MARY....lol!!!

Sometimes I think of what Mary went through being the mother of Christ. I realize that I could never quite grasp it.

Just imagine Mary walking to pick her 8 year old son from the safe place in the forest she left him to go gather woods for fire then she hears a loud terrifying roar. As a mother she instinctively moves towards where her son ought to be and discovers he isn't there. Frantic she starts to look for him. Then she hears a giggle followed by a roar, "o my God! That thing is near my son!!"  She starts to run towards the sounds regardless of the danger she is putting herself in.

Oh, did I mention she is pregnant! Yes, she is 5 &1/2 months! So what you are imagining is a pregnant mother running to snatch her son out of harm's way while trying to be careful so as not to endanger the life within. Awkward running style I guess.

Then as she moves closer to the area she believes the sounds are coming from she hears, "o stop jor! I'm tired of playing"

Her mind races, "Mo da ran! No be my son voice be that? Playing with who? Can't they hear the fearsome sound of that animal? Omo yi o ni pa mi!"

Then she comes to the clearing and comes to a total stop with shock on her face. She sees her son playing with not 1 but 2 tigers. Not just playing, he is scolding them for not letting him rest. His hands is right in the face of 1 while the other has it's head under Christ's 2nd hand as though begging for a pat.

"Jesus!! Come here now! Leave them alone. No don't run, walk."

The tigers start to growl at Mary. Then Christ says, "will u stop that this instance. That is my mother."

The animals are contrite and move back.

Then Mary turns to Christ and says "I know you created them but please remember I am your mother and I'm human. I love you and would try to keep u safe even though I know in our case u are the 1 protecting me. But Jesus I take your name beg you no use worry and fear kill me. How many times will I tell you, you can play with other animals but not WILD ANIMALS!!! Jor ma pa mi! Ha!"

Just imagine if you were Mary, would you tell Joseph?
What will you even say? I met our son playing with Tigers.

If Jesus was a Christian (a poem juxtaposing the life of Jesus and the modern day Christian).

Bodyguards would have barricaded,

And the blood would still be an issue.
Offerings bowls would be passed around,
To feed the multitude.
To Jerusalem, a convoy of cars,
He would need- A grand entrance
For Pilate, an army of lawyers,
To mount defence.
The woman in Samaria would continually thirst,
Because he has ethnic preference.
The merchants in church would bring returns.

and He would build universities his members can't afford.
In his 'holiness', he won't wash dirty feet,
For his reverence, he won't sleep in the streets.
Miracles would be public spectacles,
Lazarus would have paid a handful.
The blind man would lean on his staff,
Waiting for the angel to stir the water.
He would have sold his soul to the devil,
for the riches of the world.
He would send the 'holy ghost' fire,
To consume Judas,
The cup of life would have passed over,
And he would be another Jonah.
He would have used the courts,
To block the pains of the cross.
Asking not forgiveness,
for the mob that cursed.
he would never have died like a thief,
To bring humanity everlasting relief
Because Jesus was not Christian.

Before you start throwing tantrums, this is a poem juxtaposing the life of Jesus and the modern day Christian.

SPOKEN WORD vs POETRY (a lovely poetic piece)

They say,
Spoken word is poetry.
I say,
Try coke and pepsi

For one lives for the stage,
Rhythms and flowetry,
The other lives in the page,
Methaphors and imagery.

They say,
Spoken word is poetry,
I say,
A sea is not its tributary.

One is direct and vivid,
talkative and expressive.
The other is secretive,
Says more with few words.

They say,
Spoken word is poetry,
I say,
Use omelettes to cook egusi.

One is superficial and flashy
Seeking to capture your eyes.
The other is an endless abyss
An emptiness that fills the heart

They say
spoken word is poetry,
I say,
Compare silk and cotton.

One is a bride,
Without jewels
The other a maiden,
With a string of pearls.

They say,
Spoken word is poetry
I say,
Marriage is not wedding

For one,
The tongue is a pen,
For the other
The pen is also the tongue

They say,
Spoken word is poetry.
I say,
A War song is not music.
